The Duties of a Friend: Providing Encouragement

It's ok to try even when know you are going to "fail"
There's a wrong way to tell friends this and a right way. This is the wrong way:

The right way is to positively encourage friends no matter the expected outcome. The truth of the matter is that not everyone is going to win the race. But that shouldn't stop you from running. The journey is the most important part of the experience. And even when we lose according to conventional definitions (and sometimes most especially then) a true friend would still be at the finish line cheering us on, no matter how long it takes.

You can also encourage friends by directing them to inspirational stories such as the following:
