So apparently there was some big announcement about Dr Pepper killing the sugar based version of its eponymous product from Dublin, TX. Now I have no idea what the situation is, and frankly I don't care. The truth of the matter is that the truth doesn't matter.
Even if we concede that Dr Pepper won in a court of law, they have lost in the court of public opinion. Again. Some more. Just like the last time.
Apparently pissing off half of the world's population wasn't enough. Dr Pepper had to go and piss off the state of Texas. Which seems odd as a large number of Texans (used to) drink Dr Pepper. But isn't surprising as a large number of women (used to) drink Dr Pepper as well.
Other companies should take this opportunity to learn from Dr Pepper's mistakes. You can be as right as you want in legal proceedings and as edgy as you want in advertising. But you shouldn't be surprised when your poor PR results in a public backlash.
